If we look back only 60 years ago, one might not recognize the same Catholic Church we experience today. The sad truth is that the Catholic Church has been negatively altered. Significant changes in liturgical practice and watering down of catechesis have horribly affected several generations of people.

Unfortunately, this article could neither explain nor contain sufficient evidence to prove this centuries-long case. Thanks be to God, there is now a book that accomplishes this. In just under three hundred pages, Dr. Taylor Marshall, an ex-Episcopal priest who is now a Catholic convert and a doctor of philosophy, thoroughly examines and chronologically analyzes the scandalous events of the last couple centuries that have led to the crisis the Church faces today.

Dr. Marshall uses his research to prove that “for over a century, the organizers of Freemasonry, Liberalism, and Modernism infiltrated the Catholic Church in order to change her doctrine, her liturgy, and her mission from something supernatural to something secular.” Marshall formulates many different claims throughout his work, all around a common theme of modernism. Modernism is the conformity of Catholic traditions and values with those of the secular world.

Marshall makes a compelling case that “Satan uniquely entered the Catholic Church at some point over the last century, or even before that.” In fact, Marshall is so convinced in his claims of Lucifer’s successful attacks on Church leadership that he tells the reader, “If you do not believe that Satan exists, put down this book.”

Marshall is right to warn the reader of this disbelief. Furthermore, without a firm trust in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Eucharist on the altar, the history that Marshall presents will shake your faith. If your faith is in men and not in Christ, you will not be able to withstand the hard truths of recent Church history. Marshall’s work is geared towards faithful, practicing Catholics who are striving to grow deeper in their faith. If you constantly keep your eyes on Christ and believe that He will never abandon you or His Church, then you will be a stronger Catholic after reading this book.

Dr. Marshall explores a range of topics such as the decimation of the Papal States, the visions and secrets of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima and La Salette, testimonies from Ex-Communists in front of United States Congress Committees, leading ideologies of past to present popes, Freemasonry and its clerical involvement, Vatican II, the Novus Ordo Mass and much more.

The infamous clerical sex abuse scandal is explored and exposed in ways that one might never expect. However, Marshall claims that the sex abuse scandal is not the cause of the problem in the Church, but rather a horrific effect of a deep-rooted cause.

Although Marshall, in an honest effort, tries to present instances where Catholic laity and clergy members had resisted the undermining of church teaching, his failure to highlight more of these heroic Catholics can leave the reader with a feeling of defeat. Dr. Marshall is attempting to present a narrative which was planned by the devil himself, and I would not argue that he spends too many pages doing that. I would, however, suggest creating a longer manuscript exhibiting more research into groups of Catholics who have been successfully executing the plan that Marshall lays out in his thirty-second chapter, Solving the Current Crisis. Make no mistake, he certainly makes the case that there are groups of people who had resisted the Crisis, specifically in the context of the Society of Saint Pius X. Nevertheless, for the sake of hope, joy, and all other fruits of the spirit that can motivate the human soul, Dr. Marshall could have considered dedicating more time to illuminating strong, traditional groups of Catholics.

As mentioned before, Marshall does not simply leave the reader upset and depressed from the hard truths presented in his book; he offers a well thought out and motivating solution. He begins by explaining “our vocation is to fight spiritually and rebuild that which has been destroyed.” I highly encourage Dr. Marshall’s readers to explore the remedy for themselves.

If you are a Catholic who is relentlessly pursuing truth, you must read Infiltration by Taylor R. Marshall. The Universal Church owes a great deal of gratitude to Dr. Marshall for his extensive amount of time, research, and effort in putting together an intricate timeline of events leading to the present day. The first step to solving any problem is to acknowledge that one exists. Dr. Marshall not only exposes that problem, he sheds light on the cause of the problem.

The Church has undoubtedly been infiltrated by dark forces. Fortunately, there is no need to worry or be anxious, for Christ has instituted the Church with the Chair of Peter and apostolic succession in Matthew 16:18: “I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” The Church of Christ will never fall. She will be attacked by beings from “the gates of hell”, and she will suffer, but she will never fall.

I pray that you are moved with the spirit as you read Dr. Marshall’s book and that you become inspired to love Christ’s church more through this journey. God bless you.
